Pure Asbestos History: One Source for those who are Curious.
I have previously posted about Asbestos Fundamentals, a German origin book published by Hans Berger and then translated to English by Ralph Oesper, then of the University of Cincinnati, in 1963. At 171 pages, it is an amazing resource.
Today, we are going to discuss Chapter 3 entitled “Historical Development,” The discussion begins with Callimachus in the 5th Century B.C. and quickly works forward to more modern people like Pliny (that would be Pliny the Elder who died in the Mount Vesuvius eruption in 79 A.D., and not his son Pliny the Younger who survived the eruption as he was on a boat in the sea).
I will let the book speak for itself. If you are interested, you will find this fascinating. If you are not interested, you will be bored to death. So, here goes.
Just as an example of the good stuff, the Vermont asbestos mine that they started working in 1908 was actually discovered in 1824. Lots of “new to me information” in this book.
So, let me know what you think about this blog posting? Remember, my focus is on history and, for me, this is as pure as it gets. TheAsbestosBlog@gmail.com. Thanks, Marty.
