International Presentations: Expanding Knowledge

I presented on asbestos related issues at the EGU25 conference on April 30, 2025. The conference was held in Vienna plus over the Internet with 20,984 researchers focusing on scientific discoveries and discussions. Our April 30th session was packaged with presenters discussing harmful minerals such as asbestos and erionite.

I have no idea as to the number of people that our presentation reached, but it was a lot. My co-authors for the presentation were Ishtiaque Ahmed (shipbreaking expert based in Bangladesh), Arthur Rose (asbestos expert based in the U.K.), and Anupam Dey (shipbreaking expert based in the U.K.), with additional input from Sara Costa (shipbreaking expert based in Belgium), and Yvonne Waterman (asbestos expert based in the Netherlands). Although I was the presenter on behalf of our submission, each of the above was instrumental in helping on the substantive information and the formation of the PowerPoint. Further, Ambra Hyskaj (an asbestos expert based in Europe) was our primary convener who helped me navigate the system and improve our presentation before going live.

For those of you interested in such a program, the EGU26 will be held next May and I believe they will open up for proposed submissions during July.

I have one more paper for this summer. Arthur Rose and I are teaming up on violence caused by asbestos at the lake shore. Arthur plans to travel in June to Grenoble to present our paper in person. He is also undertaking the lions share of the work on improving my paper which initially addressed similar issues.

A big take home for me is that we need to share research, share history, and work together.

Only by cooperation, will our history be heard, our research held in esteem, and we have the opportunity to make a difference.

I would like to offer my services for complementary presentations on asbestos related issues. This can be in person if you are close to me, or over the Internet by Zoom or Teams. My goal would be to tailor the presentation to your business, school, firm government agency, or other organizations. As I said, “complementary” with no charges or fees.

Thank you and let me know what you think. Marty
