Trade Names: A Refresher Course

I have previously blogged on investigating trade names, either in the abstract or directly (see https://theasbestosblog.com/?p=10781). Because such identification of the product and manufacturer is key to almost all asbestos-related issues, I wanted once again to provide a road map to anyone investigating this to complete an inspection, prepare a plan, commit to budget, or otherwise potentially initiate litigation.

My favorite starting point is The Handbook of Material Trade Names, authored by O.T. Zimmerman and Irvin Lavine, published in 1953. This 794 page book is very comprehensive on the trade names and content of asbestos-containing material. If this topic appeals to you, then go through my initial tradename blog at https://theasbestosblog.com/?p=10781. The book itself is available for under $20 on the Internet.

In addition, I recommend looking through the Owens Corning Picture Book. This book is fairly comprehensive as Owens Corning was trying to provide a road map for Plaintiff attorneys to develop other product exposure and, so the thought process went, to take the heat off of Owens Corning; it did not work. I have a scanned in a copy of the book.

There are others, but these are my favorite books in starting a search. I hope that you find them just as helpful as I do. Please leave a comment in the comment section for this blog or email me with any questions at TheAsbestosBlog@gmail.com. Thanks. Marty
