Locating Asbestos History. The Owens-Corning Fiberglass Picture Book.
As my tagline says, “Where History Means Knowledge. Be Informed.”
For those of you interested in researching your exposure to asbestos or in identifying potential exposures to asbestos, the OCF Picture Book is a tremendous asset. Owens-Corning Fiberglass created the Picture Book in 1990 in order to help the witnesses identify other potentially responsible parties. That is, OCF was trying to “share the love” among defendants so that its insulation product Kaylo was not the only asbestos containing material identified and at trial.
The OCF Picture Book has two types of sections. The first type, called Source Book Sections, includes massive amounts of information including manufacturers, trade names, types of asbestos fibers used, and just about anything else you can imagine. The second type, called Volume Sections, contains thousands of photographs of packaging which then cross references back to the Source Books.
I possess a scanned PDF copy of the OCF Picture Book. My Book Index is as follows:
Examples of pictures are like:
The Introduction to the Source Book begins as follows:
As you can see, the OCF Picture Books are loaded with information just waiting for you. I am available to help you through them if they get too complicated.
Let me know if you would like an electronic copy of these documents as part of your journey into asbestos history. Next week, we will discuss additional historical research material.

Marty keep up the great work with helping identify the issues that have affected the people working in the industries for all these years and happy to see you have found your next calling.
Rich, thank you. I view this as a calling to help others and to help educate.
Martin keep up the good work the truth has been hidden from us for so many years time to uncover now
Mavis, that is high compliment coming from you. Thanks for all that you do in the U.K. and around the world. For people who do not know Mavis Nye, Google her name along with the word Mesothelioma or Google the “Mavis Nye Foundation” and you will see what real courage looks like.
